The old part in excellent condition, consisting of pieces of beautiful timbers 50 to 60 cm section is shown as such as testimony that it is possible to build solid wood without pretense. The new wood takes as reference dimensional height of the traditional plank barn, bottom section of the variation of which is done by asking, in staggered rows and alternating planks of solid wood 27 mm thick. As for the materialization of the roof stone, it is imposed by the Building Regulations. Attention was paid to the fineness of the eaves through cantilevered stone and paneling offset.

Inside all coatings are larch except the floor of the kitchen, bathroom and walls supporting the stairs are covered with small black slate standards. Only expresses a light installation in the expression of slightly offset joints. The slab between floors is laminated wood. No layer of sound insulation or screed or unnecessary layers of wear, even when a family lives two floors. This action pushes the building to its simplest expression, a roof over its inhabitants. The heating system consists of two soapstone with a traditional old and a new pellet.

The ground was left untouched so the houses floats above the rocks. Also above the rocks is it possible to walk around the houses on outdoor bridges and platforms, hung from the facade. The contrast between the sometimes rough climate and the easy summerlife was the guide to the design of the buildings. Construction of timber is covered with nearly maintenance-free materials. Painted parts are white according to the tradition of the coast.

The rounded roofs got their form from the surrounding rocks. The geometry of the plans is simple; one front room closest to the ocean for cooking, eating, and relation with people and a rear section for bedrooms and entrance hall. Large glasspanels can be slid to the side so that all rooms can be open towards the outer bridge.

The closely positioned guesthouse at 1.17 has a bedroom and a sauna. The interiors of the house is completetly covered with untreatened fir. When a low evening sun from west lightens the panel is the inner of the houses from the ocean a glowing eye catcher in a grey landscape.

One of the most complex and rich elements of the building is the gallery. His subtlety constructive relationship so natural and posed with the court, makes an ambiguous and versatile space. Ambiguous by his dual concept interior-exterior and public-private … and versatile in that it was created as a circulation space protected from rain, is both a meeting place and neighborhood relationships, light sensor, air cool or heat, small garden, etc.. A very sensitive area can capture perfectly the situation of its inhabitants. The gallery defines the courtyard, the gap. The court focused on the plot is the social representation. The permeability between it and the street, allows adequate ventilation of the house. Ultimately the gallery and courtyard are the soul of the neighborhood, a vivid portrait of everyday life.

The home Zayas was one more example of noble residence AlbaicÌn that with time and for various reasons, was renting piecewise other denizens outside the household. Today the building, after the intervention has become one, but inhabited by eight neighbors, all low-rent elderly, by decision of the former owner who gives to that end, thanks to its flexibility, adaptability to change of use, property, neighborhood, dominant taste, etc.. An architectural potential, whose spatial structure, functional, light, formal, etc.. is always open to redefinition and redeployment according to the criteria of value each time.

Keys: Clarity of approaches and media economics. Basically, the building is reduced to a series of horizontal and vertical planes, walls and floors-that shape the inhabitable areas: the courtyard is the void, the absence interior, the galleries as ambiguous limits. All this with a high level of simplicity and minimal specialization.

Everything is recycled: transformable architecture and “nutritious”. Housing is abstract, organic and contradictory. Private enclosures for housing are geometrically pure and functional specialization, internal divisions disappear. Typically, a single area or a series of two or three homogeneously united by voids, usually without carpentry. Each of these spaces are used at random and flexible, depending on the family unit or the specific circumstances of each clan that changes throughout its long life. Specific applications are solved with furniture. Both galleries and courtyards have public use, allowing relations between neighbors. The indoor-outdoor relationship becomes fluid, dynamic and rich: essential for a happy coexistence.

The internal wooden cladding of the floor, walls and ceiling was made from local, untreated spruce boards. In keeping with tradition, the floorboards have a brushed surface to achieve the necessary resistance. All furniture and fittings are made of spruce wood and are an integral part of the overall concept – walk-in furniture. The heat is supplied via the central heating of the existing building, the Taxhof. A stove as a single fireplace covers the peak heat requirements. Together with the kitchen stove, it is an expression of center and conviviality.

The floor openings connect these spaces vertically throughout the building.

The terrace on the bathroom floor provides a visual connection to the sky from the living room below. It also can be viewed from the bedroom and roof balcony above. The kitchen/dining room is daylit both by the light entering its own window, as well as from windows above.

The supporting structure is entirely exposed and was designed to be as small-scale as possible, in order to match the scale of the furniture. The floors consist of 25 mm-thick corrugated steel decking riveted to the underside of a 3.2 mm-thick steel plate, onto which a 30 mm-thick concrete was poured (a mere 58.2 mm in total thickness). The light structure improves the sense of spaciousness and airiness within this very compact home.

The vertical configuration creates a spacious living in a densely inhabited city.
