One person, one animal and „peace of the soul“.
The original scheme of the apartment did not fit the brief for this project. We wanted to arrange the interior in a way that achieves a feeling of lightness and ethereality. Something that is big and small at the same time. On one side there is a bit much, on the other a little. To define the space, but also not to.
How should one move in it, what to place where and how to use it?
The apartment articulates that it does not matter. The project aims at a feeling and an individual.
Some parts of the apartment have its own place, but that is all. We have been discussing the topic of space and its possibilities for a long time now. We are therefore glad that also this scheme defines very little – just what is not there. The apartment is opened for any changes in its conscious use thanks to its depth of intimacy.

The programme of a family house is divided into two parts. The inner part is comprised of basic dwelling components and laid out on a Palladian 3×3 grid with a spatially accented dining room in its centre. The outer part consisting of the additional programme creates an in-between space – neither a house, nor a garden – that mediates between these two.

The family house is located in a stabilized area of detached houses and garden plots. Set back from the street, it has the same position as a former garden house. This provides certain intimity and isolation. The central situation of the house splits the plot into the front and rear garden. While the front garden is concieved as lush, informal vegetation, the rear garden hidden behind the house has a more functional character.

The house itself is divided into two concentric parts – the inner and the outer. The inner part is comprised of basic dwelling components and laid out on a Palladian 3×3 grid with a vertically accented dining room in its centre. The outer part consists of the additional programme – patios of different size and proportion, garage, pool and storages. It forms an in–between space, neither a house, nor a garden. It serves as a mediator between both of them.

 Construction Period:
 2022
 Location:
 Pernek, Slovakia

The assignment of the project was a family house on a slopy plot of land on the outskirts of the village of Pernek, western Slovakia. The site is located in the natural surroundings of the Small Carpathians mountains.

Our intention was to make a simple, undemanding house that uses the terrain of the plot and blends in with the environment. Provide housing with the greatest possible connection with the surrounding nature. We placed the house on the slope below the road to allow its residents to observe the nature of the opposite forest, and thus freed up the flat part of the plot for the garden.

Read MoreClose

The construction of the house is a concrete shell (without internal supports), made of monolithic concrete, which is admitted in the interior. The only facade of the house is a glass wall in the south direction, through which it communicates with its surroundings. The other areas of the house are grassed and blend in with the terrain.

We designed the floor plan of the house in the shape of an isosceles trapezoid, mirroring its longitudinal profile. The interior space is free, divided into two floors connected by a staircase. Downstairs, in contact with the garden, is a multifunctional space in which there is a living room with a work corner and the parents’ bedroom, a kitchen with a dining room and the technical background of the house. On the upper floor there are two children’s bedrooms, a bathroom and an entrance area. All living rooms are oriented through large windows in the southern direction towards the garden and the forest.
